So, the other night, Wesley's brothers were asking how "it" all began. We had to go back to my journals for the time period but we basically agree as to how "it" started. Here is Part 1.
Wesley and I have been friends for 11 years. We saw each other at a meeting prior to starting A.L.L. (for those of you who don't know what that it is, it is Accelerated Learning Lab and took place at Lindon Elementary), and officially met the first day of fifth grade. We were going to a different school than the one our houses were in to go to this special program and our moms had decided that we would carpool together, along with Cydney and Mike. Neither of us was very happy about this. I knew that I would carpool with Cydney and Mike because they were in my ward but I didn't want to carpool with some random people. He wasn't interested in carpooling with a girl either and even went so far as to try to convince his mom that I lived too far away.
Despite our desires, we carpooled anyway and became good friends. We played the clarinet together in band from 7th to 12th grade, took many of the same classes and occasionally did stuff together outside of school. He was one of my best friends, especially my senior year of high school. Somehow I managed to miss that he had a crush on me during our senior year. We did go to a date dance together and he dressed up just for me.
After graduating, we didn't see each other much until Thanksgiving weekend. I called him to see if he wanted to go see the latest Harry Potter movie (after exhausting other options) and so he went with me. He was a complete gentleman and wouldn't even let me buy the tickets. A week or so later, we went ice-skating with a bunch of friends. We continued hanging out that night, even after everyone else had gone home. It was a lot of fun and to be honest, that is the first night that I wondered what it would be like to kiss him.
As a funny side note, around Thanksgiving time, Cydney and I went to Andrew Hartshorn's piano concert at his house. We were walking around talking and out of the blue, Cydney said that she thought that I liked Wesley. I was completely and totally blown away and had no idea where she got that idea from. I decided that she was using it as a smoke screen to conceal the fact that she liked someone odd (not that she was able to keep from telling me anyway) and didn't worry about her random comment.
During Christmas break, I was sick but when Wesley invited me to go see "King Kong" and wasn't too concerned about getting sick himself, I couldn't say no. We had a lot of fun and when I got home, I put my back to the door, just like in the movies and realized that I actually did like Wesley as more than a friend. It was a very weird sensation.
